Kitchen Remodel Dumpster Rental Guide

A kitchen remodel can generate a large amount of debris in a short period of time. Cabinets, countertops, drywall, flooring, trim, fixtures, appliances, packaging, and demolition materials can quickly overwhelm household trash service.

This guide explains what dumpster size may work for a kitchen renovation, which materials require special consideration, how debris weight affects the rental, and how to prepare your property for delivery.

Do You Need a Dumpster for a Kitchen Remodel?

A small cabinet or countertop replacement may produce limited debris that can be managed with regular disposal methods. A full kitchen demolition, however, commonly creates enough material to justify an on-site dumpster.

Projects that often generate significant debris include:

  • Base and wall cabinets
  • Countertops
  • Drywall
  • Backsplash tile
  • Flooring
  • Interior trim
  • Pantry shelving
  • Sink cabinets
  • Plumbing fixtures
  • Light framing
  • Doors
  • Packaging from new products
  • Nonhazardous construction debris

For many full kitchen renovations, keeping a dumpster at the property helps contain debris, reduce disposal trips, and keep the project organized.

Use the Drywall Weight Calculator to estimate the disposal weight of drywall, backsplash backer board, or plaster before requesting a trailer.

If the project includes backsplash tile, floor tile, or countertop tile removal, use the Tile and Mortar Weight Calculator to estimate the weight of tile, thinset, cement board, and other attached layers.

If your kitchen remodel also involves removing carpet or area rugs, use the Carpet Weight Calculator to estimate that portion of the load separately.

If the project includes removing cabinets, shelving, wood framing, or other lumber, use the Lumber and Wood Debris Weight Calculator to estimate the weight of dimensional lumber, plywood, and engineered wood.

What Size Dumpster Is Best for a Kitchen Remodel?

RedArk offers two trailer sizes. The right choice depends on the scope of your project, the types of materials being removed, and the total estimated weight.

15-Yard Dumpster Trailer — $375

A 15-yard trailer may be appropriate for:

  • A standard kitchen remodel
  • Cabinet removal
  • Countertop removal
  • Drywall and backsplash removal
  • Moderate flooring removal
  • Small contractor renovation projects
  • Projects with limited driveway space

Included: Standard 3-day rental · Delivery and pickup within the normal service area · Up to 2 tons of included weight · Rear loading doors · Driveway-friendly trailer design

20-Yard Dumpster Trailer — $450

A 20-yard trailer may be more appropriate for:

  • Large kitchens
  • Full kitchen gut renovations
  • Kitchen and dining-room renovations
  • Kitchen projects combined with flooring or wall removal
  • Large cabinet packages
  • Larger amounts of drywall, framing, flooring, and packaging
  • Contractor renovation projects

Included: Standard 3-day rental · Delivery and pickup within the normal service area · Up to 3 tons of included weight · Rear loading doors · Larger debris capacity

Choosing a size: For many standard kitchen remodels, a 15-yard dumpster may provide sufficient volume. Larger renovations, multiple-room projects, or loads containing significant quantities of tile, mortar, plaster, concrete, stone, or heavy countertops may require a different setup. RedArk will review the project details before recommending a trailer.

How Much Debris Does a Kitchen Remodel Create?

Debris volume and weight depend on a number of factors:

  • Kitchen size
  • Partial renovation versus full demolition
  • Number and construction of cabinets
  • Countertop material
  • Amount of backsplash tile
  • Flooring type
  • Amount of drywall removed
  • Wall or soffit removal
  • Pantry demolition
  • Framing changes
  • Packaging from replacement products
  • Whether nearby dining or hallway areas are included

Heavy materials can use the trailer's weight allowance before the trailer appears physically full. A load that looks manageable by volume can still exceed the included weight limit if it contains dense materials.

Important: Stone countertops, tile, mortar, thinset, plaster, concrete, brick, and similar materials can become extremely heavy. These materials must be disclosed when requesting a quote.

Common Kitchen Remodel Debris

Materials that may commonly be accepted include:

  • Wood cabinets
  • Laminate countertops
  • Drywall
  • Wood framing
  • Interior trim
  • Interior doors
  • Pantry shelving
  • Vinyl flooring
  • Laminate flooring
  • Carpet
  • Nonhazardous plumbing fixtures
  • Sinks
  • Faucets
  • Cardboard
  • Product packaging
  • General nonhazardous construction debris

Material acceptance depends on the material type, quantity, weight, disposal-facility requirements, and whether heavy materials are mixed with general renovation debris.

Kitchen Remodel Materials That Require Approval

The following materials require advance approval before loading:

  • Ceramic tile
  • Porcelain tile
  • Mortar
  • Thinset
  • Plaster
  • Cement board
  • Concrete
  • Brick
  • Stone countertops
  • Granite countertops
  • Quartz countertops
  • Cast-iron sinks
  • Large amounts of heavy flooring
  • Mixed masonry debris
  • Appliances

⚠️ Do not load heavy materials or appliances until RedArk has reviewed the material type, estimated quantity, and disposal requirements. Heavy-material limits and pricing may differ from a standard renovation-debris rental.

Can Kitchen Appliances Go in the Dumpster?

Appliances require disclosure and approval before delivery — acceptance and charges may vary depending on the appliance type.

Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and any appliance containing refrigerants generally require special handling and must not be loaded without prior approval. These items are subject to environmental regulations that affect how they can be transported and disposed of.

Ovens, ranges, dishwashers, microwaves, and other appliances must also be disclosed before delivery. Never load an appliance without first receiving approval from RedArk.

Items That Cannot Go in the Dumpster

The following items are not accepted:

  • Paint
  • Solvents
  • Fuel
  • Motor oil
  • Chemicals
  • Batteries
  • Propane tanks
  • Medical waste
  • Asbestos-containing materials
  • Hazardous waste
  • Liquids
  • Refrigerants
  • Pressurized containers
  • Tires (unless approved)
  • Food waste in large quantities

Contact RedArk before loading any item you are unsure about.

Dumpster Trailer vs. Traditional Roll-Off for a Kitchen Remodel

RedArk dumpster trailers are designed for residential and contractor projects where a smaller footprint and rear loading access may be helpful. Driveway construction, slope, access, surface condition, load weight, and placement conditions must still be reviewed.

Where Can the Dumpster Trailer Be Placed?

RedArk places dumpster trailers only in approved driveways or other approved private-property locations.

RedArk does not place trailers:

  • On public streets
  • In the public right-of-way
  • Across public sidewalks
  • Where traffic is blocked
  • Where emergency access is restricted
  • In alleys unless the placement area is verified as private property and approved

The customer must provide a clear and accessible placement area. If you have questions about whether your driveway or property can accommodate a trailer, contact RedArk before requesting delivery.

How to Prepare for Kitchen Remodel Dumpster Delivery

  1. Remove vehicles from the driveway.
  2. Move trash containers, basketball hoops, trailers, and other obstacles.
  3. Check for low branches and overhead wires.
  4. Confirm adequate driveway width and turning access.
  5. Disclose narrow gates, tight turns, steep slopes, or low clearances.
  6. Keep children and pets away during delivery and pickup.
  7. Tell RedArk about cracked concrete, pavers, soft asphalt, or surface concerns.
  8. Keep the trailer accessible throughout the rental.
  9. Do not park vehicles in front of the trailer.
  10. Provide placement-area photos if requested.

How to Load Kitchen Remodel Debris

  • Place heavier materials near the bottom.
  • Distribute weight evenly across the trailer floor.
  • Do not overload one side or one end.
  • Keep all debris below the trailer's top edge.
  • Do not allow materials to extend over the sides.
  • Break down cabinets when practical.
  • Flatten cardboard and packaging.
  • Keep the rear-door area accessible.
  • Do not move the trailer after delivery.
  • Do not add prohibited materials.
  • Contact RedArk before loading unexpectedly heavy materials.

Kitchen Remodel Dumpster Example

Consider a homeowner completing a full kitchen demolition involving:

  • Upper and lower cabinets
  • Laminate countertops
  • Backsplash tile
  • Drywall
  • Vinyl flooring
  • One sink
  • Interior trim
  • Cardboard and packaging

A 15-yard trailer may provide enough physical capacity for many projects like this. However, tile, mortar, plaster, stone, or other heavy materials could affect the weight limit before the trailer appears full. The customer should provide a complete material list — including any tile, stone, or masonry — when requesting a quote so RedArk can review the weight and disposal requirements.

How the Rental Process Works

1. Request a Quote

Provide the project location, debris type, approximate quantity, desired delivery date, and contact information. Include any heavy materials such as tile, stone, or appliances.

2. Review the Project

RedArk reviews the debris, heavy-material concerns, driveway access, service location, and trailer availability.

3. Deliver the Trailer

The trailer is delivered to an approved driveway or other approved private-property location.

4. Pick Up the Trailer

At the end of the rental, RedArk retrieves the trailer and transports the debris to an appropriate disposal facility.

Kitchen Remodel Dumpster Rental FAQs

What size dumpster do I need for a kitchen remodel?

The right size depends on the scope of the project, the types of materials being removed, and the total estimated weight. A 15-yard trailer may be appropriate for a standard kitchen remodel. A 20-yard trailer may be more appropriate for larger kitchens, full gut renovations, or projects involving multiple rooms. RedArk will review the project details before recommending a trailer.

Is a 15-yard dumpster large enough for a kitchen remodel?

For many standard kitchen remodels, a 15-yard trailer may provide sufficient volume. Projects involving large amounts of tile, stone countertops, mortar, plaster, or masonry may reach the weight limit before the trailer appears full. Providing a complete material list when requesting a quote helps RedArk assess whether a 15-yard or 20-yard trailer is more appropriate.

Can kitchen cabinets go in the dumpster?

Wood cabinets are generally accepted as part of standard renovation debris. Break down cabinets when practical to make better use of available space.

Can countertops go in the dumpster?

Laminate countertops are generally accepted. Stone, granite, and quartz countertops require advance approval because of their weight. Disclose countertop material when requesting a quote.

Can granite or quartz countertops go in the dumpster?

Granite and quartz countertops require advance approval. These materials are dense and can significantly affect the total load weight. Contact RedArk before loading stone countertops.

Can backsplash tile go in the dumpster?

Ceramic and porcelain tile require advance approval. Tile, mortar, and thinset can become very heavy. Disclose the type and estimated quantity of tile when requesting a quote.

Can drywall go in the dumpster?

Standard drywall is generally accepted as part of renovation debris. Large quantities of drywall can add significant weight. Disclose the estimated amount when requesting a quote.

Can flooring go in the dumpster?

Vinyl flooring, laminate flooring, and carpet are generally accepted. Ceramic tile, porcelain tile, and heavy stone flooring require advance approval because of weight considerations.

Can appliances go in the dumpster?

Appliances require disclosure and approval before delivery. Refrigerators, freezers, and appliances containing refrigerants require special handling and must not be loaded without prior approval. Ovens, ranges, dishwashers, and microwaves must also be disclosed. Never load an appliance without first receiving approval from RedArk.

Can a refrigerator go in the dumpster?

Refrigerators contain refrigerants that require special handling under environmental regulations. A refrigerator must not be loaded without prior approval from RedArk.

Can a dishwasher go in the dumpster?

Dishwashers must be disclosed before delivery. Acceptance and any additional charges will be reviewed when you request a quote.

How long can I keep the dumpster?

The standard rental period is 3 days. Extended rentals are available at $20 per additional day. Contact RedArk if you need more time.

What happens if the load exceeds the included weight?

An overweight charge of $50 per additional ton applies when the total load weight exceeds the included weight allowance. Heavy materials such as tile, stone, mortar, and concrete can cause a load to exceed the weight limit before the trailer appears full. Disclosing heavy materials when requesting a quote helps avoid unexpected charges.

Where will the trailer be placed?

RedArk places trailers only in approved driveways or other approved private-property locations. Trailers are not placed on public streets, in the right-of-way, across sidewalks, or where traffic or emergency access is affected.

Do I need to be home for delivery?

Contact RedArk to confirm delivery requirements. You will need to provide a clear and accessible placement area and disclose any access concerns before delivery.

Can contractors rent from RedArk?

Yes. RedArk serves homeowners, contractors, landlords, property managers, and real estate investors throughout the Downriver area and surrounding Metro Detroit communities.

Can the trailer be used for a kitchen and bathroom remodel together?

It may be possible to use one trailer for debris from both a kitchen and bathroom remodel, depending on the total volume and weight of the combined materials. Provide a complete material list for both projects when requesting a quote.

What happens if I have more debris than expected?

Contact RedArk as soon as possible if the project generates more debris than anticipated. Options may include an extended rental, a second trailer, or a pickup and re-delivery. Do not overload the trailer or allow debris to extend above the top edge.

How far in advance should I request a trailer?

Requesting a trailer as early as possible helps ensure availability for your preferred delivery date. Trailer availability is not confirmed until RedArk reviews the project details and confirms the rental.

What information should I provide when requesting a quote?

Provide the project address, debris type, estimated quantity, any heavy materials such as tile, stone, or appliances, desired delivery date, and your contact information. The more detail you provide, the more accurately RedArk can assess the project.
